Why we take a comprehensive approach
The eyes are complex organs where small changes can have meaningful consequences for vision, comfort, and long-term eye health. Conditions such as glaucoma, macular disease, dry eye, corneal irregularities, and eyelid disorders often overlap — and may not be fully understood with a brief examination alone.
A comprehensive diagnostic evaluation allows us to:
- Detect problems early, before symptoms become severe
- Differentiate between similar-appearing conditions
- Establish a baseline for future comparison
- Recommend treatment based on objective findings, not guesswork
Our goal is to provide clarity — for both the doctor and the patient.
What a comprehensive evaluation involves
When clinically appropriate, a first-time evaluation may include a combination of:
- A detailed consultation and medical history
- Slit-lamp examination of the eyes and eyelids
- Measurement of eye pressure
- Retinal and optic nerve imaging
- Corneal surface and curvature assessment
- Measurement of corneal thickness
- Tear film and dry eye analysis
These tests are non-invasive, quick to perform, and provide valuable information that cannot be obtained by examination alone.
Not every patient requires every test. We use diagnostic imaging judiciously and purposefully, based on your age, symptoms, medical history, and clinical findings.
Technology in service of clinical judgment
Advanced diagnostic technology is a powerful tool — but it does not replace the doctor–patient relationship. At Valentina Stavrou MD, technology supports clinical decision-making, it does not drive it.
Every test is:
- Interpreted by a board-certified ophthalmologist
- Explained in clear, understandable terms
- Used to guide personalized care
We believe patients should understand why a test is performed and what the results mean for their eye health.
A foundation for long-term care
Establishing a strong diagnostic baseline allows us to:
- Monitor subtle changes over time
- Adjust treatment early when needed
- Avoid unnecessary interventions
- Provide continuity of care year after year
Whether your concern is vision quality, eye comfort, eyelid health, or disease prevention, our diagnostic philosophy is designed to support safe, precise, and individualized care.
Our commitment
- Medical integrity
- Thoughtful use of diagnostics
- Clear communication
- Care that prioritizes your long-term eye health
Because good ophthalmology isn't rushed — it's well-informed.
